Description

This was my first time out with my new (used) modified D5100 - unfortunately due to weather and illness I wasn't able to catch the end of the winter nebulae and I'm too impatient to wait for the core season to start! One advantage this gives me is the intervalometer option that I don't have with my D3500, so I was finally able to set up the camera in the yard and go to bed, and collect everything in the morning (glad it enables data collection during the work week!) I learnt a few things, notably I need to investigate some alternate power sources as my batteries gave up after just under four hours work of 30 second exposures. Still managed to get 7hr44mins of data over two nights so I'm pleased I had plenty to work with. At least this was a good opportunity to get familiar and comfortable with my new gear before the summer nebulae appear. Next stop at next new moon will be Rho Ophiuchi!

Imaged on April 5th and 6th, 2022
Nikon 180mm f2.8 lens effectively stopped down to f4 through use of 58mm Haida light pollution filter

Title: M101 Wide-Field reprocess

Description: Never felt entirely happy with the original, I overdid the noise reduction. Had another go and like this one better in terms of the texture and color balance in the spiral arms.
